Give a dog a bad name and hang him. This old English expression encapsulates the unfortunate wrongful branding of a noteworthy cause.
Proponents of Occupy Flagstaff House and its offshoot RedFriday have come under criticism for the tone of language expressed by certain supporters of their cause.
The social media campaign by these two action groups has been well received and it has elicited strong verbal responses than some people are comfortable with.
The founders of these two non-partisan pressure groups that are championing social change have always branded themselves as pacifists. Despite the non-violent approach they have adopted in their movement, they are earnestly propagating their call to action. We feel that the Occupy FlagStaff House and the RedFriday movements are being wrongfully maligned in an attempt to vilify the cause.
It is true that some people who claim to be affiliated with them have used some aggressive language. However, the opinions of the aforementioned select few cannot be used as yardstick to define the movement or as a tool to create an alternate identity for such a worthy social justice phenomenon.
We believe that both the Occupy FlagStaff House and the RedFriday movement abhor all anarchist elements. They are advocates for stronger governments that inspire and give hope to a broken people. We would redraw our support if we receive evidence that contradict what we have come to believe.
We wish them all the strength as they advocate for the principle of visible and accountable government
