You don’t need to be a clairvoyant to be able to foresee the imminent electoral triumph of his Excellency President Mahama and the electoral catastrophe that awaits Nana Akuffo in the impending elections. The NPP, led by its two -faced members of Parliament , in their jitters ,can push the elections date from November to December after giving Ghanaians the impression that they were vouching for a November vote : that cannot salvage them from the inevitable electoral doom looming large over them.
In fact, a December poll will rather aggravate or exacerbate their electoral woes. My concern however is that Ghana would have to dissipate its time and resources again sorting out another incompetent and gratuitous electoral suit as we witnessed in 2012. You can’t beat the NPP’s hobby horse for litigation, can you?
It is crucial for me to add that Mahama’s victory in 2016 has been paved by his serious- minded determination not only to develop the infrastructure base of the country but most significantly the human resource base!
Ghana once again is on the cusp of becoming Africa’s industrial and intellectual hub with the creation and revivification of factories, the refurbishment and expansion of both the Tema and Takoradi ports and the conversion of 6 out of the 10 Polytechnics in the Country into technical Universities by President Mahama. Ostensibly, the technical Universities will feed industry with human resources and the technical know-how to propel economic growth. Mahama is a visionary leader of course!
Those who belittle the prime importance of infrastructure to economic growth and development should be apprised of the fact that all the developed economies like America, Singapore, Japan and indeed Britain had to invest heavily in infrastructure to propel them to such enviable economic heights. The gentrification of the Kotoka international airport and the refurbishment of the Tamale airport with an ultramodern runway, the construction and renovation of roads crisscrossing the country; the expansion of water systems along towns and villages including the installation of a water desalination plant; the springing up of multitudes of schools and hospitals; and the creation of so many job opportunities for the youth are just the right steps President Mahama has taken that would ensure the creation of a buoyant economy.
No one can blink the fact that President Mahama has solidified the social Democratic credentials of the NDC. The NDC as a social Democratic Party believes Social Intervention is key in the mitigation of the travails and predicament of the hewers of water and drawers of wood. Since in every society we are bound to have people who are underprivileged, indigent, infirm, impoverished and aged there is the need for the state to put in- built mechanism in place to ameliorate their standards of living! The state has to take palpable steps towards propping up those who live below the poverty line as it were, to enable them lead decent and dignifying lives. President Mahama has been a faithful friend of the poor! His fellow feeling for the downtrodden and the wretched of the earth is common knowledge to all and sundry.
The support systems put in place by Government under the livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program has been of tremendous assistance to several poor and less privileged families and households across the Country. The strenuous efforts made by government to register the aged, the indigent and the infirm under the National Health Insurance Scheme free of charge are empathetic indeed.
This Yeoman’s job by President Mahama is being complemented effectively and efficaciously by a very competent and assiduous first Lady, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama – affectionately christened by the Kasena’s as Awewonu. Her passion to curb or eradicate HIV/ AIDS in Ghana and Africa at large ,especially Mother to child transmission ,is rivalled only by her deep seated desire not only to empower and emancipate the girl child but most significantly to give meaning and a sense of direction to the lives of poor rural Women and Children. This is unarguably the most purposeful and focused first couple in Africa!
In conclusion, mention must be made of the fact that the mandate of President Mahama is going to be renewed because of the honour, respect and dignity his inimitable and people centred leadership has brought to the Ghanaian Presidency!
