We write to congratulate the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for launching a 16 day program on activism against gender violence program.
We accept this move because Girl children have been suffering humiliations as domestic servants, ‘kaya yei’ with some of the girls sent out of Ghana to Arab and European nations to serve as modern day slaves.
Muslim and Northern and Zongo parents whose children constitute a large portion of the girls who suffer humiliation are to blame for failing to provide children with adequate feeding and education at early stages of their lives.
To find solution to the problems with girl children I the Zongo communities we have devised a means of sensitizing imams in our mosques to provide education on how to raise girls in according to the teachings of Islam. We intend also to institute a program to educate women and men during naming and marriage ceremonies in all our Zongos.
We wish to begin the trial run pilot of this program in Dome Kwabenya, Nima and Mamobi areas and the Ayawaso constituency generally
This pilot program will begin immediately to be intensified on Fridays and weekends during marriage ceremonies across the Zongos. We shall also move on later to rope in all the Islamic schools to make early training of children especially girls their priority.
In order for us to move in line with the objectives of the ministry of gender we would like to have the guidelines for the 16 day program beginning on November 25 which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day held every year.
We would also wish to follow the import of this year’s theme, ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for all”
We would be happy to have guidelines from your ministry on this program to help us work in line with the objective of the program
