The colour was light brownish with a white spot on its chest just under the neck around which the young owner, a Lady with no sense for responsibility, from time to time put a lead around to walk it. Most of the time it spent the days in a cage not enough for it to stand and move around. She only wanted to cuddle her dog with no name after which it was looked away in the box standing in her back-garden.
Doggy was well known in Greda Estate, with obvious results. He was a Romeo making other dogs happy and pregnant. The results of his love life were visible as any young dog seen around with brownish colour was a product of his manhood. He was not willing to be touched by Sister Ama, the owner that kept him to guard her House. As he was useless to perform his duties, Nordeners from Bolgatanga came, circled him in behind her house and killed him with a heavy metal bar. Doggy ended as Grilled Meat for a good Sunday Afternoon Party like Missy, his companion few weeks later.
Chicken and Dogs run around the streets of Accra and other cities neighborhood, nobody takes notice of them. They enjoy the shadow underneath cars, bark when approached helplessly with their tail between their legs, run around in groups of three or more not causing any harm to people walking besides them. Dogs with red colour around their necks are easily to be identified as having an owner. Cats in Ghana are in public not so much seen like Dogs which is astonishing. Nobody dares to catch any chicken for a good meal even when being poor and starving knowing somewhere the owner is looking for them by the close of day.
Goats cross the streets of Ghana in small groups, find grass along the roads, nobody cares. Cows, mostly from India, find green grass and black plastic bags to chop between houses, along the road side or close to water bodies. Only occasionally herdsmen, young and old, can be seen taking care of a bigger group of cows or goats.
Chicken and Fowls are kept in small cages or on limited spaces in Farms or neighbourhood facilities. Children are not taught by their Parents or Teachers how to treat animals. Africans see Animals as useful for their pleasure and feeding, not as living creators with a personality and the right to be treated accordingly to their specific needs.
To tell an African Germany in its Constitution has Animal rights and Animal Protection Organization that enforce the Law on an effective basis, makes a White Man seen by the Black Man like a Crazy Man out of his mind.
To slaughter Animals under hygienic conditions is something for most Africans to understand that their personal health is at stake an impossible undertaking. The idea and demand to slaughter a Cow or a Chicken in such a way for it not to feel pain, is outrages for African believes. Animals are made for Humans but Humans not for Animals, is the believe of Africans. The Bible is teaching Man should have Dominion over Animals which does not imply neglect, ignorance and cruelty towards Animals we Humans live from or enjoy in our arms.
Societies are different, animals are different and yet all are basically the same as Humans are Humans and in the end Animals are Animals. A German Cow is a Cow, a Cow in Ghana is a Cow after all. Animal rights therefore are not a Luxury of well developed countries. In Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Taoist or Muslim dominated Societies Animals rights is the respect for the beauty we live in created by GOD which we have to honour with our way of living in this world and by treating Animals for what they are and made of, GOD’s will to please Man.
Africa’s way to understand this simple fact is long but ever journey of 1000 Miles starts with the first step. So, Africans, step out of your comfort zone, your old traditions and way to treat Animals anyhow and show your gratitude towards living Creators GOD had also created besides you. Surely, he will honour you and see you as more matured and responsible people that he can be promote to higher levels in life. GOD honours people that honour him and as we are made in his own image, so is the entire world made of his Will and Vision.
