Brothers and sisters, it is election time again and Politicians are all around canvassing for votes. I am not going to go too much into the campaigns and the promises being made all over by all the parties.
My message is short and simple. I want to remind Ghanaians that they should not forget the past 8 years and what Ghana has been through.
Ghanaians should not forget the Melcolm Disaster in 2012 that killed at least nine people and injured over 70. The BBC records that Mahama said then that ‘those responsible for this negligence will pay a price’. Does anyone have any news on those who were responsible? Or what becamse of them if they were ever found? A case of lives lost; justice denied.
Ghanaians should not forget the numerous strikes public sector workers have had to embark on in recent years to almost ‘beg’ for monies that they are due for services they have rendered to the nation. The countless number of strikes in recent years under the Mahama/NDC government has been a burden on the nation. Nearly every public service sector has been on strike at least once in the last year and several in the last 8 years. But what has been the grievances of these service personnel? MONEY. Lack of money to pay off months of arrears of salaries. Lack of money to improve working conditions. Yet somehow, when the government wants money for anything, anything at all, they find it. They ‘find’ money to brand buses, they find money to put up huge billboards and print colourful magazines they call ‘Green books’. Money suddenly becomes abundantly available for matters important to the NDC government but not to the Ghanaian.
Ghanaians should not forget about the devastation that has been brought about by Dumsor, the destruction to lives, properties and businesses. Now Ghanaians seem to be having a break from this man-made terror. This illusion should not fool Ghanaians. The power generating machines are being pushed to operate full capacity to cross over the election period. Ghanaians should brace themselves for what lies after 7 December, irrespective of which ever party wins, but worse times ahead if the NDC wins.
Last year some celebrities demonstrated to speak their minds on the persistent blackouts, with no timetable and no warning. They were branded prostitutes and called all sorts of names by officials of the NDC and the government. Those celebrities should not forget their fight for a good cause!!
Ghanaians should not forget the rampant fires that also spread across the country the last few years, destroying lives, markets and properties. The last I read, an American company had been brought in to the country to assist with investigations and recommendations. As to the outcome of whatever transpired, no one knows. Makes you wonder if they were indeed brought in to the country.
Ghanaians should not forget the June Twin Disaster that claimed some 200 innocent lives, because government played down the effects of the perennial floods and didn’t take the necessary measures to avert or reduce casualties. Various discussions that filled the radios and TV’s brought the blame down to negligence. Negligence on the part of Government Ministers to ensure that the yearly occurrence of rain which almost always resulted in flooding in parts of Accra was dealt with.
Everywhere around the world people litter their environments. That’s why governments construct closed drainages and gutters and supply abundant litter bins and collection services. Non or little of this exists in Ghana. Another sad case of lives lost; justice denied.
Ghanaians should not forget the many corruption cases that have characterised this NDC government. They should not forget the create, loot and share enterprise that is flourishing under Mahama, rewarding incompetence and mediocrity.
Ghanaians should not forget how much the Ghana Cedi has devalued under this government, and how the cost of living has risen so much it’s unimaginable how many Ghanaians make ends meet.
Ghanaians should not forget the killer taxes and utility tariffs that have been forced on them, a direct result of mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy and incompetence of the current administration.
Ghanaians should not forget the many promises unfilled by the Mahama/NDC government in 2008 and 2012. Promises, some of which could have been implemented but haven’t been due to the president and his appointees busily filling their pockets and that of their families. They have no time to sit and ponder over serious national issues.
The list goes on and on and on….
People should count the lives that have and are being lost every day (not yet including those that Collins Dauda’s brother has confessed to), the properties and businesses that have been destroyed, and the lies that are constantly being spewed out by this NDC government to cover their acts. During this NDC era, strange things have happened. Needless deaths and plain I-don’t-care attitudes from the government and his appointees on matters of great concern to Ghanaians.
Ghanaians should not forget the suffering and the heartaches they’ve been through the past 8 years. They shouldn’t think that the corrupt and incompetent NDC government they voted into power in 2008 and 2012 is suddenly going to turn a new leaf and start implementing the many promises they made in the last two elections and the new ones they are making this year.
We will have no idea of how much the country has degenerated until NDC leaves power and the losses are counted.
Ghanaians, do not forget. You have been through enough.
