The Daffiama/Bussie/ Issa District Students’ Union was formed and launched in 28th December 2015 after it had separated from the Nadowli District Students’ Union following the creation of the DBI District in 2012.
As an intellectual group which seeks to contribute significantly in the development of the district especially in the area of education, the union summoned all stakeholders ranging from students across the country from the district, political parties, security Agencies, NCCE, GES among others to its maiden general annual congress held at the Issa Youth Leadership Training Institute yesterday( 06/08/16).
It was a well attended program as hundreds of students despite a torrential rain in the early hours of the day, filled the conference Hall to capacity.
The president of the Union Mr. Zumankyere Aloysius speaking on his keynote address, admonished all politicians to be very circumspect and responsible in the already heated political temperature in the young district. He described politics as a vehicle of development but not when it is characterized with insults, lies and division. Buttressing the point, he added that the Union is non- partisan and hence shall not entertain any uncharitable form of politicking by the various political parties.
He also used the opportunity to make a clarion call on traditional authorities, political parties and all stakeholders to come together and work with the Union in its quest to championing development and progress of the DBI district and particularly called on the District Assembly to work with the Union as it is ever ready to support with policy alternatives that can inure to the benefit of all constituents.
He admonished that shift measures must be taken to curtail the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy, school drop outs and poor academic performance among the students in the district. He said, the Union is working out a program of activities that can add a weight to reduce these bad situations if not eradicate them overly.
Enumerating numerous educational challenges in the District, he appealed to government to build one of its community senior high schools in the district to increase accessibility since the Daffiama Senior High School and Issa Youth Leadership Training School alone are inadequate in addressing the educational gab in the area.
The Union according to the president, is very surprised and still cannot fathom why the few educational institutions in the district were left out in the recent distribution of vehicles to various educational institutions across the country.
He passionately called on the government to kindly do something about the situation since the district equally deserves to benefit from that laudable effort by the government. The Union will therefore be disappointed if government does not pay heeds to its call.
By and large, the program was very rich as it provided the opportunity for the NCCE to educate the youth on how to contribute to a violent free elections. It was just an exciting moment.
Let me use this opportunity to thank all those who participated and supported such a mammoth and rich program. I wish all students of DBI the best of luck. May God guide those who are preparing to go back to their schools.
Let me be quick to add that a new plant has just germinated. Let’s all water it to grow to give us edible delicious fruits.
Shall return with other great speeches from invited guest.
