Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey constituency, of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has expressed her admiration for her father, former President Jerry John Rawlings, who turned 70 yesterday.
Zanetor, the eldest daughter of the 1st President under the 4th Republic, took to her Facebook to applaud her father for his selflessness and longevity.
She wrote: “Wow… Dad, I can’t believe you’re 70 already, yet you keep going so strong.
“Your selflessness and love for others always astound me. Though sometimes I wish I could keep you all for myself, I take pride in the fact that the good Lord placed a special calling on your life – to touch the lives of multitudes across nations.
“Dad, I know that some day when the roll is being called, your name, J. J Rawlings will be inscribed in gold. I’m proud to be your daughter.”
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings won the Korle Klottey parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after garnering 2,403 votes to beat the incumbent MP, Nii Armah Ashitey.
Her votes represented 62.22 per cent of the total votes cast. Nii Ashitey polled 1,348 votes, representing 34.90 per cent of votes cast. A third contestant, John Coleman, polled only 100 votes, representing 2.5 per cent of the votes.
As the eldest daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, her membership of the NDC became the centre of discussions among party functionaries in the constituency from the very first day she made public her desire to contest the primary.
