Outspoken Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has accused members of the minority in Ghana’s parliament of being hypocrites who only support issues that favour them.
He observed that their entrenched stance against the freeing of 8 Delta Force members further exposes their hypocrisy wondering why they failed to do same when the president granted remission to the Montie trio
While standing by the decision of the Attorney General to acquit and discharge the suspects for want of evidence, he said he feels vindicated because he has always maintained they are innocent accusing the minority of not justified in their attacks with calls for the re-arrest of the 8.
“The AG has spoken and so I urge the minority NDC especially Haruna Iddrisu to shut up and stop being a hypocrite. It is my hope that the other members who are facing other charges will also be freed” he said on Accra- based Neat fm.
Eight members of the Pro-NPP group who were standing trial for abetting the escape of 13 of their colleagues at a Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit court were arraigned before the court on various charges.
When the case was however called on Wednesday May 17, 2017 the Principal State Attorney Marie Louise-Simmons said she was under instructions from the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, to discontinue the case.
Members of the majority, who are not enthused about the development, want immediate steps taken to have the freed suspects rearrested.
But Chairman Wontumi as affectionately called, believes the minority especially Haruna Iddrisu is weeping more than the bereaved and demands he shuts up.
He reminded the minority of the various roles they played to secure the release of the Montie trio who bastardized the court some time ago explaining that the Attorney General’s decision was legal in the face of the law.
He reiterated his fullest support to the Delta Force, daring the minority to come and arrest them.
