A 40-year-old woman has been shot dead at Alulani, a community in the Nanumba district of the Northern Region.
The body of Alhassan Rahinatu was found at her residence following gunshots in the area on Tuesday evening.
According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Yussif Tanko, a joint military and police team stationed in the area rushed to the community at about 8pm yesterday when they heard gunshots only to find her dead with gunshot wounds.
“She was identified as Alhassan Rahinatu, wife of Abraham Bediako, a member of the Andani faction in the Chieftaincy litigation,” he told 3news.com.
The body has since been deposited at Bimbilla Government Hospital for preservation.
The daughter of the deceased, Kadija Bediako, 14, was also found with gunshot wound on the left shoulder. She is currently responding to treatment at the same hospital.
Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the “husband of the deceased Abraham Bediako was the target” but was not around during the attack.
The son of the deceased, Bediako Kamel, 20, who was also in the room when the assailant attacked escaped unhurt.
He claimed seeing an unidentified gunman at their door who shot at them whilst watching television.
Although ASP Yussif Tanko said the area is currently calm, the next development is “unpredictable”.
In a related development, the police in Bimbila on Monday December 11, 2017 arrested three persons with fire arms.
Issah Amadu,26; Mohammed Seidu, 23; and Issah Sank 25 were arrested by the police patrol team during the curfew hours.
