Inside sources are emerging with details as to what transpired culminating in the arrest of contractor Nuhu Mahama Akalbila brother of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Adams Mahama.
Upper East Regional Minister Rockson Ayine Bukari, is reported to have caused the arrest of the contractor with the claim he abused him during a funeral last Saturday which led to his detention for several hours at the Bolgatanga police station.
But sources have revealed that some time ago immediately the minister assumed office as Upper East Regional minister, Nuhu presented a certificate of claims for a contract that he executed under the previous National democratic Congress (NDC) administration for payment.
Rockson Bukari was reported to have stated explicitly that he has issued directives that before he would sign or approve any claims, he would have to inspect the project before but after resistance and persistence from Nuhu who is related to him, he obliged to his request.
But on condition that when he found out that the project is not well executed or totally executed he will be held responsible.
The Minister is alleged to have told him, how it is good to have a relative or brother in a better position but was among those who ganged up against him when he was seeking to be appointed as Regional Minister.
“This happened in the presence of the regional Coordinating Director and the accountant and he (Nuhu) felt disgraced and hurt. He never approached the minister privately to register his displeasure until today when the minister attended the funeral at his (Nuhu’s)family house and immediately he (Nuhu) saw minister seated in the funeral house, he started spewing invectives and insults repeatedly at him (minister)and the minister also replied when his patience ran out of control. It took the intervention of other mourners to move minister out of the funeral grounds and he (minister) reported the case to the police and Nuhu was arrested”, the source revealed to mynewsgh.com
