Asamoah Gyan’s flight money -It can be recalled that Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan footed the bills to convey the national team from Brazzaville to Accra after their 5-1 thrashing of Congo in a World Cup qualifier.
It may have been a rare act of benevolence, but Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has insisted that Asamoah Gyan’s flight money will not be refunded.

Upon arrival to Ghana, the Black Stars captain had revealed that the Sports Ministry had disappointed the entire playing body with poor traveling arrangements and therefore his gesture saved a disgracing situation in Brazzaville.
He went further to say that if not for his gesture, Ghana would have been made a subject of mockery by other participating countries. But speaking at the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, Asiamah said Gyan rescued the team at his own expense.
According to him, the Ministry of Sports made the necessary provisions for the national team which may not have been perfect enough to Gyan.
He stressed that the ministry never shied away from its responsibilities because they had put everything in place for the team according to the outfit’s standard.
we never breached our arrangement because we had our own agreement with the GFA so he did it at his own cost
Reports revealed that Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan paid Ghc272,00 (an equivalent of about $62,000) for a chartered flight to convey the national team from Brazzaville to Accra after the 5-1 Ghana-Congo victory on September 5, 2017.

According to reports, this was after an 11th-hour cancellation of the team’s initial flight arrangement by the Sports Ministry, which left them virtually stranded in the Central African country.
GFA Communications Director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara, had said that a chartered flight had been secured to bring the players back to Ghana after the match in Brazzaville.
However, it later emerged after the match that the government had failed; which was when Gyan intervened. But it seems the GFA is not as grateful as expected to the captain for offering to help his brothers.
