Peoples National Convention (PNC)’s Flagbearer , Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama is currently in hot soup for accepting an appointment from President Nana Addo to become an ambassador of the country. Edward Mahama was among the 22 people appointed by Akufo-Addo on Monday, July 10, as ambassadors to represent Ghana in different countries.

The PNC leader was made an Ambassador-at-large. His position as an Ambassador-At-Large means he would be an ambassador without a specific country but would be visiting countries to do government business at the behest of the President.
However, The Peoples National Convention (PNC) is against the move. Dr Edward Mahama’s appointment has since raised public interest especially with regard to his job prescription and the fact that he is an appointee from a different party.
For the PNC, the party has said it will sanction the 2016 flagbearer for accepting the appointment. National Chairman of the party, Bernard Morna who interacted with the media revealed that the entire party was unaware of Mahama’s decision.
According to him, the PNC leader did not inform any member of the party when he was consulted by the ruling government for a possible appointment. For this reason, he continued, the leadership of the party will meet to discuss how best to sanction him.
Newly appointed Ambassador Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama has justified his new role, saying it is a call of duty to serve the nation. According to the Ambassador-at-large, Nana Addo’s appointment goes to show that the President is impartial and wants the good of every Ghanaian.
He stressed that political stakeholders should not see his appointment as an opportunity to play some cheap party politics. The President wants to work with everybody he pointed out, and all hands must be on deck for a better Ghana. The PNC Flagbearer pointed out that he did not accept the appointment for any political party, saying; “I am an ambassador of Ghana [and] not for the PNC or NPP”
Some Ghanaians have commended the President for the move, describing it as an all-inclusive act of governance. This is because unlike the perceived party politics where appointments are always based on affiliations with ruling party, Nana Addo made competence the major determinant factor.
