Samira Bawumia, who is the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, was born to a politician, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and Hajia Ayesha Ramadan. She is the only daughter of her parents.
Despite her father’s political leaning, Samira has risen to become a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
One of her brothers is a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Samira is a polyglot with five languages; Ewe, Ga, Twi, Fanti and her husband’s native tongue, Mamprusi, rolling off her tongue effortlessly.
She read Bachelor of Arts Social Science in Law and Sociology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Samira was adjudged the Best Student in Master of Business Administration (MBA) for Project Management at GIMPA.
She started her early education at the Answarudeen Islamic School at Fadama in Accra, before proceeding to the Akosombo International School and then Mfantsiman Secondary School in the Central Region for her Ordinary Level (‘O’ Level) education
Samira, as she is affectionately called, met her husband, who is now the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in May 2003. The two got married nine months later in February 2004. Their first daughter was born in December 2004 and she is called Nadia. They are blessed with three children.
Mrs. Samira Bawumia has one best friend, Mrs Joyce Attafuah, wife of Prof. Ken Attafuah,, whom she describes as a sister.
“Samira is a selfless, compassionate, exceptionally smart and caring and always there for you,” Mrs Attafuah described her.
She is also an emotional fellow. Banku with hot pepper and fish is her favourite dish.
