Sensational and promising Takoradi-based singer, Afezi Perry, has been asked to render an apology in writing to the board of the Western Music Awards for asserting that he did not recognize the Awards.
The rap artiste in an interview on Oil City Mix on Connect FM in November, 2017 said he did not recognize the Awards organized by Westline Entertainment.
“Organizers of the Western Music Awards did not follow due process by engaging all the artistes from the Western Region when they intended to organize such an event.
“I don’t even know what kind of award it was because nobody consulted or informed me about any awards even though I was in Takoradi.
“I will not pick any nominee form to file for an award but if the organizers are interested in my songs, they should award me accordingly.”
But the board of Western Music Awards has expressed disappointment in the artiste for the comments.
Speaking in an interview with Ransford Nana Osei Asare on Entertainment Review, the Public Relations Officer for the Western Music Awards, Nana Kwesi Coomson, said, “The comments have reached the board and all what they require from Afezi Perry is to render the apology in a written form to present to the board, post on social media and also apologise on Connect FM where he made those assertions before the apology will be accepted”.
“We want to instill discipline in him so that it will serve as a deterrent to other musicians in the [Western] Region,” Nana Kwesi Coomson added.
The 2nd edition of the Awards is scheduled to be held in April.
