Outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Chief Scribe has warned the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to stay away from any issues related to the opposition party.
Koku Anyidoho vowed to deal with the association ‘drastically’ should they jump into issues concerning any member of the NDC or the party at large.
“Now that they have made up their minds that they will only speak when the wigs of judges are removed or when court proceeds are disrupted, we are okay with that. We pray that they just go on that path but if they dare get in the way of any NDC member’s issue, they will see what we will do to them. Oh yes!” he warned in an interview with Akwasi Aboagye, host of NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’.
His threat comes on the heels of a statement from the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) calling on the Attorney General’s Department to resume the prosecution of discharged eight members of Delta Force, a vigilante group affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Anyidoho however questioned the A-G’s decision to drop charges against the eight members of Delta Force that aided escape of thirteen of their members from custody.
According to him, the GBA over years has been unfair to issues especially where it bothers on political lineages like that of the recent attack on a sitting judge in Kumasi by the NPP vigilante group.
He was of a view that the association is “in bed” with the incumbent government, hence refrains from commenting on major national issues in recent times.
“How come the GBA did not comment on the Delta Force issue as well as Otiko Djaba and Naabu’s issue?” he questioned.
“One would have preferred the GBA waded into such issues by calling for further investigations. But they did not. If they are not interested in issues concerning lawyers, they should let us know. In the past they were commenting on everything,” he told host Kwasi Aboagye.
And added that; “We will constantly criticize the bar until they invite all of us to court or jail us. It is unacceptable. It is not fair; it is not fair at all. What is the new Chief of Justice doing to all, must she be told before she reacts?”
