President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has celebrated his wife Rebecca and all mothers as Ghana joins the rest of the world today, Sunday 14 May, to mark Mother’s Day.
According to him, children will always be indebted to their mothers.
“Happy Mother’s Day to my lady, Rebecca, my daughters, and to all mothers in Ghana. We’ll always be indebted to you all,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has sent her wishes to Ghanaian mothers as the world marks Mother’s Day today, Sunday 14 May.
“Today is Mother’s Day and I salute all mothers and mother figures. Motherhood is a tough job. Mothers never rest. A mother would move heaven and earth for her child. Mothers shape our lives, nurture our talents, and inspire us to achieve greater heights. Every mother deserves to have this special day,” she said in a statement.
As a mother, Mrs Akufo-Addo said she is mindful of the struggles mothers go through, as they work tirelessly to instil discipline, protect and create opportunities for a better life for their children.
She urged all mothers to keep up the “good work” even in the face of challenges, knowing that in due course “we would all enjoy the fruit of our labour”.
She also urged everyone to appreciate all the mothers in our lives because they are “simply phenomenal”, adding: “Whether this woman is your mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, foster or adoptive mother, please remember to say thank you today. These women deserve your appreciation.”
Mrs Akufo-Addo used the occasion of Mother’s Day to remind Ghanaians of the needless deaths of mothers and children at the Komfo Anokye Hospital. According to her “no woman should die giving life to another and no mother should lose a child she has carried for nine months”.
She encouraged Ghanaians to contribute to the Save A Child, Save A Mother project by contributing in cash or in kind to the special fund to build a new unit for the Komfo Anokye Hospital maternity block. Payment in cheque or cash, she said, can be done at Access Bank.
