Nana Akufo Addo has said his government is going to make sure galamsey is a thing of the past in Ghana.
“The Ghana handed down to us by our forefathers is the same Ghana we must leave for the unborn generations. We must not allow Galamsey to destroy our country, no way.
If the rule of law is to work in Ghana then the law should be no respecter of persons neither should it be a respecter of one’s affiliations.
If you as a Paramount Chief flouts the law, the law must deal with you”. Nana Addo added that his government is not here for NPP supporters or NDC supporters but will make sure anybody who is involved in galamsey will have to face the law.
He had earlier directed that earth moving machines should only be allowed to operate in Ghana with permits in the country.
John Peter Amewu, Minister Minister of Lands and Natural Resources explained this directive further saying, “what we want to do is that, if you own an excavator, and for some reason you want that excavator to go and work at a place, that excavator must have a working permit”.
The NPP government believes this to be the first step of many to help curb the menace of galamsey in Ghana.
