The family of the late Major, Maxwell Mahama say they will only forgive the killers of their son if the assailants are dealt with appropriately.
According to the Spokesperson of the family Zakaria Sakara Ahmed, the family believes that the state security agencies will do all they can to bring all the perpetrators to book and “it is only after that the family can forgive those who slain our son”.
Major Mahama, who was heading a military detachment in the Upper Denkyira West District in the Central Region, met his untimely death Monday, May 29, 2017, when some residents of Denkyira- Obuasi in the district accused him of being an armed robber and lynched him.
Meanwhile, when the host of Onua Fm morning show Bright Kwesi Asempa inquired from the spokesperson who is an uncle to the deceased, if they will forgive the killers of their son, he sighed and said “Although it is difficult thing to do but we can only forgive them if the law gives them the appropriate punishment they deserve.
We can forgive but not forget what happened”. He noted that already, there was some form of apology from the Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan to the family but cannot confirm if everyone in the family has accepted it, adding that although apologies and forgiveness will not bring back the Major Mahama, it is only morally right they accept it and move on.
Instant Justice NGO Zakaria Sakara Ahmed also hinted that the father of the Major Mahama will soon outdoor an NGO which will solely be dedicated to educating the populace on instant justice with the aim of combating the phenomenon.
This, he said, is to ensure that lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama is the last.
