As part of efforts to support the family of the late Major Maxwell Mahama, tennis players at the Akosombo tennis club have supported the family of the late soldier with a seed money of ten thousand Ghana cedis.
The amount is aimed at establishing an endowment fund to support the family of the late Major Maxwell Mahama.
According to the CEO of Gridco who doubles as a Patron of the Akosombo tennis club, William Amona, the team decided to support the family since the late major Mahama nurtured the interest in tennis playing at the Akosombo tennis court years ago.
He said “this presentation to aimed at starting an endowment fund for the family to support them with the upkeep of the kids and ensure the family is as comfortable as possible.”
Ing. Amona announced that a memorial tournament dubbed major Mahama memorial tennis tournament shall be organised on the 29th May of every year to celebrate the late Major Maxwell Mahama.
He also appealed to Ghanaians to do well to delete the videos of the late Major Mahama from their phones since the horrific way under which he was murdered it is not something worth keeping.
The immediate past CEO of VRA, Ing Kirk Coffie who is also a chief patron of the VRA tennis club noted that “the celebration of Major Maxwell Mahama by the VRA tennis club is in order because Maxwell as a boy was always around the tennis court to offer assistance to us each time we were here to play tennis.
He deserve to be honoured with an annual tournament to support the endowment fund established fornthe family.”
The wife of the late Major Maxwell Mahama, Barbara Mahama who was available to receive the check was full of appreciation to the club.
“I would want to express my sincere gratitude on behalf of my kids and the rest of our family members for this kind gesture.”
A memorial tournament organized between members of the VRA tennis club in Akosombo and Accra.
The captain of the Akosombo tennis club Alfred Okine also embraced the proposal of organising an annual tournament for the late Major Maxwell Mahama since it would go a long way to assist the family.”
The proposed annual memorial tournament is a step in the right direction and as soon as possible, we shall start planning the Major Mahama Annual memorial tennis tournament which would be held here and proceeds realised would be sent to support the endowment fund established for the family,” he affirmed.
A memorial trophy was presented to the family in recognition of the tennis exploits of the late soldier.
