Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University (STU) advised students to show interest and pursue technical education.
He said on completion technical education provides ready jobs for students who opt for the course.
Prof Adinkra-Appiah gave the advice when he launched the maiden edition of the “SONODWAE Arts 2017” festival of the Department of Visual and Industrial Art of the University in Sunyani.
The SONODWAE Arts festival offers opportunity for the Department to showcase its products to the public. Prof Adinkra-Appiah expressed regret that many graduates failed to get jobs because they did not considered the course they pursued in tertiary institutions.
He said graduates had no excuse to remain jobless as university education prepared them adequately for the job market. Dr Edem Atiase, the Head of Department of Visual and Industrial Art, said his department provided employable skill training for students so that they could establish their own businesses.
The Department, he said, trains and prepare students to use clay, beads, and waste materials to manufacture fabrics, salamis, bowls, ceramic art, interior decoration and inspirations cylindrically made. Dr Atiase added that it had about 180 students and appealed to corporate bodies, NGOs and all stakeholders to support the art work.
