Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), Ghana has urged hairdressers throughout the country to maintain and uphold high professional standards in order to be competitive locally and globally.
Deputy General Secretary of ICU in charge of Operations of ICU, Mr Morgan Ayawine, noted that hairdressers must be up-to-date with styling and grooming that meet current international standards in the ever-increasing competitive market.
Mr. Ayawine was speaking at the Greater Accra Regional Annual Hair Week in Accra organized by the Ghana Hairdressers’ and Beauticians’ Association (GHABA).
“Standards are of utmost importance in every profession. Indeed, the very essence and continued existence of any profession is its ability to create and maintain a standard that is acceptable to its clientele and the society in general.
…however, creating a standard is one thing, and maintaining it is another thing. If you create a standard based on your values, you must obligatorily stick to those values in order to be able to maintain the standard you have created. You do not need a soothsayer to tell you that if you deviate from your values your standards will equally fall, and the repercussions on your profession can be enormous,” he stated.
He said it was because of the importance of high standards in every profession and trade that the ICU commended the Greater Accra Regional GHABA for choosing ‘Maintaining Our Core Values in Contemporary Practice’ as the theme for celebrating the Annual Hair Week.
The event is to showcase the talents and innovations of members of GHABA and expose the contributions of the association to Ghana’s socio-economic growth and development to the public.
To be able to meet this commitment, he stressed the need for hairdressers to upgrade their skills in hair and beauty techniques so as to enable them keep abreast of what is happening in contemporary practice both locally and internationally for the growth, development and sustainability of their profession.
“And, you can be assured; this will ensure the continued existence and relevance of your profession to your clientele, thus ensuring the profitability of your business and your socio-economic freedom and financial security. It is only by this means that you could realize the objective of your 2017 Annual Hair Week theme,” he added.
