Two suspects in a bloody attack that injured at least four persons at the residence of the MP for Asunafo South have been arrested.
The Brong Ahafo regional police PRO, ASP Augustine Oppong, told 3FM on April 3 that suspects are being processed for court.
“We have arrested two suspects and they are Kwabena Acheampong alias IC and Enoch Asare….they were all arrested in Sankore…so I believe maybe by tomorrow we will take them to court”, he said.
The residence of the MP and former Brong Ahafo regional minister, Eric Opoku, was attacked by thugs resulting in people sustaining severe injuries and property being vandalized.
The thugs who were alleged to be sympathizers of the governing National Patriotic Party (NPP) purportedly overpowered a police patrol team at Sankore, in the Brong Ahafo Region, and seized their vehicle.
They reportedly later used the seized vehicle to undertake series of robberies at targeted locations, including the residence of the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area. This according to reports is the second time the MP’s residence has been attacked.
The NPP in the Asunafo South has solidarized with the attacked MP and the other affected persons and condemned the act.
Meanwhile, a leading member of the minority caucus in parliament and a member of the communications committee of parliament, Alhaji A. B.A Fuseini, has alleged strongly that the attack was carried out by NPP supporters. He states emphatically that “We have no doubt that there is a strong linkage between the previous attack and this one, although they have disguised it under the façade of an armed robbery but it is not. It is a bunch of hoodlums of the NPP.”
The police has also indicated calm has been restored in the area and the people of Sankore are living in peace.
