As part of measures to digitize and make banking more convenient, Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has launched a mobile application to bring banking to the doorstep of its numerous customers.
The UMB ‘SpeedApp’ will allow the bank’s customers to conduct their banking transactions in the comfort of their homes, offices and while on the go using a smartphone.
Chief Executive of UMB, John Awuah reiterated the bank’s commitment to making banking convenient for customers.
“We made a strong commitment to our customers that in everything we do, they come first. So the number one rational that pushed us to where we are now is the convenience that we want our customers to experience from their dealings with UMB,” he said.
He added: “We picked feedback from customers who told us that there are so many things that they do when they come to the banking hall, but they believe we should be able to create a platform for them to do it themselves.”
Mr. Awuah observed the world was moving from paperwork towards digitization, hence the need as a bank to move along with current trends to satisfy customers needs.
“We are moving from paperwork to people doing things on their phones and ipads. The future of banking is creating a lot of bankers within the population so your customers see themselves as bankers because they doing the transfers, they are making the requests, applying for loans, filling the forms they are doing everything by themselves, and we are putting them in control of their finances,” he added.
The UMB ‘SpeedApp’ allows customers carry out all banking transactions on their mobile devices, including cardless withdrawals at the ATM by generating an Identity and Token number on the App.
The Identity and Token numbers can also be sent to family and friends to withdraw directly from the ATM without a card.
Customers enjoy the convenience of accessing all banking needs directly on their phone coupled with mobile money directions which allow them to send money directly from their UMB accounts.
The SpeedApp, Mr. Awuah said, is not heavy on data, as it is extremely light because everything in relation to the App is centered at the UMB back office with extreme security.
Be it funds transfer, investment, forex rates, bank statements, airtime purchase or payment of utility bills, the UMB ‘SpeedApp’ provides seamless services on the go, he stated.
