The dust has finally settled as all thirty members of the Bosome Freho District Assembly on Thursday gave an overwhelming endorsement to the DCE nominee, Yaw Danso.
The former constituency organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party had his nomination vehemently opposed by a section of party executives, who protested that the nominee lacked the educational qualification to head the district.
Section 20 of the Local Government Act 936, Act 2016, stipulates “There shall be a district chief executive for each district appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of the members of the district assembly present and voting at the meeting.”
Bosome Freho was among seven district assemblies in the Ashanti region which were outstanding in approving the President’s nominees for the local assemblies.
Amidst tight security, the exercise was supervised by some government officials led by the Ashanti regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah and his Deputy, Elizabeth Agyemang.
Other regional executives of the ruling party also canvassed the thirty assembly members to vote and approve the nominee, Yaw Danso.
At the end of the polls which lasted only 30 minutes, 28 assembly members representing 93.3 percent voted for the nominee, while two opposed.
Ashanti regional director of the Electoral Commission, Lawrence Sarpong, declared Yaw Danso duly elected as the chief executive for Bosome Freho District Assembly.
In his victory speech, Mr. Danso promised to uplift the image of the district whilst working in line with the President’s vision to industrialize the local economy.
“Our district is lagging behind, we are going to work together to improve the situation,” he assured the assembly members.
Bosome Freho district is one of the deprived districts in the Ashanti region: Infrastructural challenges include poor road network and unstable electricity supply.
Youth unemployment is also major challenge that needs to be addressed by the DCE.
