Motorists who use the Tetteh Quashie-Accra Central road as well as the Osu Cemetery road will have to brace themselves up for a serious gridlock Wednesday, February 21 as the Police have announced a closure of portions of the roads.
It said the temporarily closure of the road from the Ridge roundneabout to the Osu Cemetery traffic and the ‘intermittent’ closure of the road from the 37 Military Hospital to the Ridge roundabout forms part of security measures for the 5th meeting of the ECOWAS presidential taskforce on single currency schedule to take place on Wednesday in Accra.
The situation is likely to have ripple effect on some major roads in city as motorists will have to find alternative routes to their various destinations.
A statement issued by the Police said only security vehicles and those carrying dignitaries would be allowed through the closed roads after the necessary security checks have been done on them.
“”Unmarked vehicles would not be permitted to park or drive through these roads,” the Police warned.
Although it did not announce alternative routes for motorists, it said traffic wardens would be detailed to vantage points to offer the needed assistance to motorists.
It asked motorists to take note before embarking on their journeys, and also urged the public to cooperate with the Police to ensure effective traffic management
“Any inconveniences that these arrangements would cause are deeply regretted,” the statement said.
