Traders who woke Thursday morning hoping to work hard, selling their goods to passers by at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange may have been shocked at the turn of events as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly implored some about 50 men to demolish and burn unauthorized buildings at the Interchange.
Looking helplessly on as the taskforce destroyed their structures, these traders could only wish there was something they could do to avert the situation.
Nonetheless the about 50 men tasked to demolish these unauthorized structures which traders were using to sell their goods stopped at nothing till the last structure was pulled down and eventually burnt.
The joint taskforce, made up of the AMA, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and Police demolished stalls on the pavement and burnt it with other debris.
After the construction of the Interchange, some hawkers have transformed the area around the interchange into a business avenue where all sort of goods are displayed for passers by to purchase.
This is part of measures to realize President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra one of the cleanest cities in the country.
