Nana Addo standing on Ghana flag -Social Media went rife on August 10, 2017, with critics bashing President Nana Akufo Addo for standing on the flag of Ghana while addressing a gathering.
An image which went viral showed the President standing on a podium decorated with the red, gold, green and Black Star flag of Ghana. Nana Addo was guarded by two police officers as he was seen speaking into a microphone.

The photo generated controversy with many accusing the President of having no regard for the country’s national symbol. Activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also launched on it to accuse the President of devaluing the Ghana flag by standing on it to address a rally.
However, supporters of the President pushed back hard against the criticism, saying the president did not step on the flag. Reports countering the accusations said the president was standing on a rostrum decorated with a red cloth on top and the Ghana flag by the sides.

A look at the image in a close-up shot from the same event showed the president was rather standing on a red carpet and not the Ghana flag as some had said.
Nana Addo Standing on Ghana Flag; A Desecration or Not?
Nana Addo was standing on a red carpet with the Ghana Flag used just to decorate the podium on which he was standing. Clearer pictures taken at the event later proved that the President did not actually step on the national flag.
Many supporters of the President regarded the escalated argument as a political propaganda engineered by his oppositions.
According to a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Mustapha Hameed, the president did no wrong by standing on the rostrum decorated with a different cloth.
Mustapha Hameed blasted the NDC activists describing them as “people with huge intellectual deficits” who are suffering from “colour blindness.”
