Strengthen & Modernise the Judiciary – Prez Charges New CJ

President Akufo Addo has charged newly sworn in Chief Justice Sophia Akufo to do well to continue from where her immediate predecessor left off to strengthen the judiciary in Ghana and mordernise it for the betterment of the Ghanaian people.

The president said “I am certain that she will continue with Chief Justice Woods’s agenda – redeeming the image of the of the judiciary and strengthening its accountability, proceeding with the modernization of judicial activities and establishing more specialist courts to improve the quality of judicial administration.

“These should be the hallmark of her tenure as Chief Justice. I assure her of the full corporation of my government as a genuine and trusted partner so that together the executive and the judiciary can corporate in a spirit of mutual respect to realise the welfare and progress of our people.”

The president further encouraged her to be rest assured of his governments support to ensure that she is able to deliver on her mandate.

Nana Akufo Addo said these when he led Her Ladyship Sophia Akufo to swear the Oath of Allegiance, the Judicial Oath and the Oath of Secrecy at the State House in Accra to become the second female Chief Justice of Ghana after Theodora Georgina Wood and the twelfth (12) in succession.

Her Ladyship Sophia Akufo was given a unanimous parliamentary approval on Monday and was sworn in the same day. She now takes over from Justice Atuguba was in acting position as Chief Justice after Georgina Wood retired on June 8, 2017.
