Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi has urged all media practitioners to rather focus on developmental agenda of the country than the needless partisan politics.
Taking a clue from the efforts of the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Multimedia Group and other organisations to give a facelift to the struggling Mother and Baby Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the Subin Member of Parliament impressed on the media to keep politicians on their toes to work harder for the country.
Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi averred politicians need a push to carry their responsibilities rather than pampering them with sweet words and titles.
“We need to realize that whatever we are doing is for the country; the media is pampering politicians too much with sweet words and big titles. You should keep us on our toes to work harder for the country,” he urged.
“The media should be focusing on such developmental agenda and expose politicians to carry their responsibilities and cut the needless partisan politics on airwaves. If the country is in good shape, we all stand to benefit from it and if it goes bad, we all suffer for it. There is peace in this country and there is no place like home,” he posited.
Recalling the current situation at the Mother and Baby Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi said, out of 12 incubators, only 2 are in good shape; therefore, instead of a child to one incubator, three babies now occupy it.
The Mother and Baby Unit is congested to the extent that Hon. Eugene Antwi akin the way pregnant women and nursing mothers are packed on the floor to a tin of sardine.
He however expressed his happiness for the fact that the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Multimedia, and wife of Asantehene, Lady Julia and other organizations have joined the crusade to raise funds to support the maternity block.
The lawmaker called on well-meaning Ghanaians to advocate for the needs of women and children in the country; thereby asking for support to revamp the maternity ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He also urged all those who have pledged to contribute towards the project at KATH to do so; believing that the fundraising for the building project will help tremendously to put the Mother and Baby Unit in good shape.
He revealed that First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo will cut sod today to start the new Mother and Baby Unit project; assuring that the facility will be state of the art in West Africa.
