The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has asked management of State Transport Corporation (STC) to temporarily halt their operations at the Neoplan bus terminal at Asafo.
The move is aimed at ensuring calm and order at the Asafo bus terminal where VIP bus operators are preventing STC from also operating from the commercial transport hub in Kumasi.
Operators of the two bus companies clashed Monday morning over space to operate.
Passengers onboard the STC bus were held hostage for hours as the operators of VIP blocked STC buses from departing, an eyewitness onboard STC told Onua FM.
While VIP bus operators have vowed to resist STC from operating at Asafo bus terminal, officials of STC have also said they will not back down from operating at the terminal.
In an interview with TV3 Monday afternoon, Chief Executive of the KMA, Osei Assibey Antwi, that said they want STC to suspend operations from the terminal to allow the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinating Council to resolve the impasse between the two.
“We have dialogue with both the management of STC and leaders of the GPRTU at the Neoplan station to resolve the impasse. The Regional Security Coordinating Council will meet them tomorrow to settle everything,” Mr Assibey Antwi said.
“…For the interim, we have asked STC to discontinue with its operations within the Neoplan bus terminal,” he added.
