Ghana Black Stars will engage the El Tri of Mexico at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA, in a friendly encounter as part of measures to strengthen the squad ahead of their qualifying matches to play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosted by Russia and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The match, which is also part of the landmark 15th annual Mexican National Team U. S. Tour, which kicked-off on February 8, 2017, will see Coach Kwasi Appiah face off in his first international friendly outside Ghana since taking over as head coach.
The encounter will be the third time both countries are meeting with the Mexicans managing to overcome the Black Stars in both meetings.
Ghana first played Mexico in 2006, where Guillermo Franco’s solitary goal gave the latter a 1-0 win in a game played at the FC Dallas’ Toyota Stadium in the USA. The Black Stars had the chance to make amends two years later in England but Pavel Pardo’s second half penalty secured El Tri a 2-1 victory.
