Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof Michael Aaron Ocquaye, has welcomed the 275 Members of Parliament (MPs) to the second meeting of the first session after rising for a month-long Easter celebration.
Welcoming members to the chamber, the Speaker called on members to be punctual to ensure the early completion of the agenda of the second meeting.
“We will consider 14 bills, 10 legislative instruments (LI) and 12 papers while members will be made to make statements,” he told opined.
According to him, most of the bills and LIs had been referred to the appropriate committees to work on them.
One of the key issues on the table is vetting and scrutinising of the President’s nominee, Justice Sophia Akuffo, as the next Chief Justice.
The 10 instruments expected to be presented to the August House are:
Labour (Domestic Workers) Regulation, 2017, Receptive Centres Instrument, 2017, Poets (Amendment) Regulations, 2017, Driving Schools and Instructors Regulations, 2017, Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, 2017 among others.
Some of the bills to be considered are: Ghana Railway Development Bill, 2017, Creative Arts Bill, 2017, National Employment Bill, 2017, Ghana Shipper’s Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Ghana Cocoa Board (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and National Road Safety Agency Bill, 2017 among others.
