The Senior Minister, Dr Yaw Osafo Marfo has called on members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana to help the national health insurance to devise a system to minimize the fraud in the procurement of drugs in the country.
According to the senior minister, there are a lot of fraud associated with the handling of the National Health Insurance Scheme which he described as embarrassing.
Dr Yaw Osafo Marfo was speaking at the 2017 National Conference of Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana in Kumasi, KNUST.
The theme for the conference is “Harnessing Opportunity in the Pharmacy for National Economic Development”.
He urged the society to help stop the fraud in the administration of drugs, associated with the National Insurance is one of the major headache of the scheme.
“The relationship between pharmacy shops, patients, doctors in these claims is disturbing.”
The Senior Minister therefore pleaded: “May I kindly appeal to the Pharmacy Society to help the National Health Insurance administration to device a system of minimising fraud in the procurement of drugs etc because, fraud in the administration of drugs associated with the National Health Insurance, is one of the major headaches of the National Health Insurance.”
