Director of Operations of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu, has called for the teacher training colleges to be scraped.
Nana Ofori Owusu, who was the PPP parliamentary candidate for Efutu Constituency, Winneba, in the 2016 general election, reiterated on ATV Asemyidika show that the various teacher training colleges were breeding unqualified persons into the system.
He suggested that anyone who wants to be a teacher must acquire knowledge from the university and go for about 6 months in-service training after the first degree.
Nana Ofori Owusu was speaking on the issue concerning education officers who issue fake certificates to favourite persons and employ them at the end.
There are rumours that some education officers take bribes and issue fake certificate in return for promotion.
Also on the show was Kwame Baffoe, who is popularly known as Abronye, a communication member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, unless capital punishment is adopted, bribery and corruption will never leave Ghana.
The discussants were looking at the issue where the director of education in Asante Akim South was alleged to be demanding ¢100 each from teachers before his outfit processes their posting and confirmation letters.
