After several meetings with the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu Constituency, government has managed to get new Chief Executive of the Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Assembly Hajia Ayishetu Seidu accepted.
There have been bloody protests in the municipality following the endorsement by the assembly members of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee.
But youth of the party claimed she bribed her way through and that they don’t see her as a true member of the party in the Constituency.
Not even a government delegation led by Minister of State at the Presidency Bryan Acheampong would get them to budge from their resolve.
On Monday after what will become the first of a series of meetings, the youth symbolically handed over a party flag to the Minister, asking him to tell President Akufo-Addo that they are not going to campaign for the party in 2020.
They claimed they struggled to win the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and for an outsider to be considered at the expense of their demands means the party does not deserve their efforts.
But after crunch meetings on Tuesday, it appears the youth of the party in Savelugu have reached a consensus with the government delegation.
According to 3news.com’s Zubaida Ismail, not only have the youth beat retreat on their stance, but also they will usher the MCE into her office on Wednesday.
“We will be ushering her to her office after the press conference, in fact, she will not need the security protection any longer,” one of the youth leaders who spoke on anonymity said.
