The Sagnarigu District Chief Executive (DCE), Mariam Iddrisu, has initiated pragmatic steps to prevent perennial floods which continue to cause havoc in some parts of the district.
She led a team of engineers to some identified flood prone communities including Ward ‘K’, Gumani and Nyanshegu.
The DCE admonished the people to stop building on waterways as plans are underway to construct more drains in the district.
She also advised them to stop dumping refuse at unapproved sites, saying, “Building on waterways and reckless dumping of solid waste in gutters cost government and the assembly huge sums of money to complete projects.”
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to fulfill its 2016 campaign promises only in an atmosphere of peace.
As a health expert, Mariam Iddrisu is the first female DCE of Sagnarigu which was carved out of the Tamale Metropolitan Area.
Her nomination and subsequent confirmation formed part of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s promise to deepen affirmative action especially in the Northern Region where patriarchy is even extended to the local governance space.
The assertive Sagnarigu DCE has promised to liaise with the chiefs and people there for accelerated development.
