Chief of the Denkyira, Krontihene Odiamono Twum Barimah II has revealed that the few residents of troubled Denkyira-Boase are currently starving because there is no food for them to eat.
According to him, the fleeing of most residents to neighbouring communities for fear of being arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, has grounded activities in the community to a halt making it difficult for them to eat.
He therefore wants immediate support for residents awaiting the period life will bounce back in the troubled community.
“We are starving because the few residents who are around are unable to get foodstuffs to buy and prepare meals. They are also scared of going to the farm to harvest foodstuffs because they feel insecure. We have all run out food stuff and no one is also willing to come to the area to trade”, he stated.
He indicated that plans are far afoot to lead a delegation to the family of the deceased soldier to beg for forgiveness and express the condolences of the chiefs to the bereaved family but expressed his regrets over the action of the residents which has put the town in a bad spotlight.
“We are pleading with everyone in Ghana, the government, the citizens and the family to forgive us. We have now become a subject of mockery and the mention of the name of the town angers others. Today we performed some rituals to cleanse the town so that the gods will not let that thing happen again”, he disclosed.
Earlier on Monday June 5, 2017, the Denkyira Traditional Council slaughtered a sheep and poured some libation to appease the gods in order to cleanse the hitherto cursed land due to the spillage of blood of an innocent soul.
Chief of the Denkyira, Krontihene Odiamono Twum Barimah II, called on those involved in the act to report themselves to the police wherever they are hiding adding that they have henceforth been ostracized from the town.
According to him, their hands have been tainted with blood and if they fail to report themselves and return to the community, something disastrous will befall them.
The Akyeamehene for Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Akomea Ntriakwa said the incident has disgraced the entire Denkyira Traditional Council.
“We are unhappy about what happened and we are doing this to cleanse the land so that something like this does not happen again. “Although it happened at Denkyira-Obuasi, it happened on Denkyira land and has dragged the name of the town in the mud. So we are here to cleanse the town and the whole of Denkyira so that peace will prevail and life will go back to normal”
