A witness to the collapse of the Christ Life Ministry church at Gbawe Borla has revealed that rescuing the victims of the collapse wasn’t easy at all.
In an interview with GhanaWeb, the witness, Kwasi Asante said that the building collapsed by a storm while church service was ongoing.
“Service was ongoing at around 9:30 am when a storm brought down the roof of the church. In an attempt to recuse the victims, a portion of the building also collapsed and I got myself injured as a result.” he said
“It was very tough for the four of us who attempted to rescue the victims out of the collapsed church. Between forty (40) to forty-five (45) members were buried by the collapse which included the pastor,” he added
He further indicated that the victims couldn’t walk as some managed to crawl while he carried others on his back to the vehicles that conveyed them to the Akawe Hospital at the McCarthy Hill Junction.
According to people who lived close to the church, this wasn’t the first time the church has collapsed.
“The building collapsed when construction initially began but no one got injured since it was at the initial stage of construction and also wasn’t service hour” a neighbour said.
Kwesi Appiah further added that a temporal structure was raised before the actual building was constructed around the structure. The roof that collapsed was actually that of the temporal structure and then followed by the building itself.
Other incidents like the collapse of billboards and other buildings have arisen as a result of Sunday’s stormy rains so the public is advised to seek for safety first as stormy rains occur.
