The Accra Regional Police Command has denied news making rounds that inmates who escaped from the Kwabenya police station on Sunday dawn have been arrested.
“The Accra Regional Police Command is debunking false information making the rounds on social media that ‘all suspects who absconded from lawful custody at the Kwabenya Police Station have surrendered themselves to Madina Police, apart from the Nigerian who was involved in a robbery,’” the police said in a statement.
On Sunday January 21, some unknown persons broke into the Kwabenya Police Station, shot and killed the police officer on duty, Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi.
There have been reports on some social media platforms which suggested that the fugitives had been arrested.
But the Accra Regional Police Command issued a statement cautioning the public to disregard any such news, describing it as false.
The police noted that such information is only intended to divert the attention of the public from the ongoing pursuit by the police to bring the fugitives to book.
The general public have therefore been asked to rely only on official information from the police. They were also urged to assist the police with any form of information that could lead to the arrest of these fugitives.
Anyone with helpful information has been encouraged to contact the police on hotline 19, MTN/VODAFONE toll free numbers 18555, 0302773695 or 0302787373.
