The District Chief Executive of Upper Denkyira West, Daniel Appiannin has been suspended with immediate effect following his utterance over the death of Captain Maxwell Mahama.
This was confirmed by the Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama who indicated that the suspended DCE must hand over to the Deputy Central regional minister whiles investigations continue.
According to the Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, the decision to suspend him was arrived at after deliberations over the current happenings in his jurisdiction with the President.
After the death of the Army Captain, the District Chief Executive told several media houses that the soldier and his colleagues had been in the township to protect some illegal mining company which had been engaging in the illegality.
The position of the DCE has however been refused by the military high command which said Captain Maxwell Mahama and his team had been sent to the area to halt the illegal mining which is part of governments fight against galamsey.
Suspects remanded:
Seven suspects in the grips of the Central regional police were on Thursday June 1 sent to court and were remanded in police custody to re-appear on June 19, 2017 while further investigations continue.
The seven suspects include Assemblyman William Baah, 36, a farmer; Yaw Antwi, 32, farmer; Bismarck Donkor, 36, farmer; Kofi Badu, 29, farmer; Kofi Nyame, 29, farmer; Anthony Amoah, 23, Okada operator and Philip Badu, 30, a prison assistant.
There has been a nationwide condemnation over the heartbreaking manner in which the Captain was murdered by residents of Denkyira Obuasi even when he was visibly pleading for mercy.
