The spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, has revealed that the annual fast of Muslims starts Saturday May 27, contrary to some reports that the fast started today, Friday May 26.
He told journalists on Friday: “As of yesterday, the moon had not been seen. …If it had appeared yesterday, then the Chief Imam would have announced that officially Ramadan starts today”.
“Ramadan is not starting today, this year’s begins tomorrow May 27.”
Over 1.8 billion Muslims across the world are expected to embark on this year’s fast – a pillar of Islam.
