The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) Samuel Kwadwo Sarpong has been relieved of his post by the president.
He has therefore been directed to handover and vacate post by the close of day, Friday, October 13, 2017.
Mr. Sarpong was appointed as the PURC boss on 10th December, 2012, but a letter signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President dated October 10, said, “In accordance with paragraph 7 of the said Letter, your appointment is hereby terminated.”
He is to hand over office to Ms. Mami Dufie Ofori and proceed to collect three (3) months’ salary in lieu of notice.
“Please ensure that you hand over and cease to act as the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission no later than close of business on Friday, 13th October, 2017,” the letter dismissing him read.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo thanked him for his service to the nation and extended his best wishes to him.
In May this year, PURC Staff Union and some concerned Ghanaians mounted pressure on Mr. Samuel Sarpong to step down following BNI probe into some questionable payments at the Commission.
He was accused of transferring some monies belonging to the Commission into a private account.
