The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru in the Brong Ahafo Region, Stephen Jalula, has said his vision for the area is to transform its economy to create jobs and also open it up for more private invest.
He said, as a mixed farming and fishing area, he would facilitate the introduction of modern farming methods to facilitate government’s planting for foods and jobs program as well as the one district one factory program.
He said the constant breakdown of the Akrade ferry that operates in Yeji was a major challenge that makes the transportation of goods and services difficult for residents.
He said the development results in revenue loss to the assembly although it has the second largest market in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Stephen Jalula made this known in a Citi News interview on his first day in office as the DCE for Pru District in Yeji.
He pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to institute measures to reduce the risks associated with travelling on the Volta Lake and also ensure that the ferry is constantly in good shape.
He described as unacceptable the situation where lives are lost on the lake.
On child labour, he bemoaned the situation where minors are hired and engaged in all forms of difficult works, mostly in fishing, instead of being enrolled in school.
He said he will enforce all legal and physical force to ensure that children were not sent to the beaches for fishing activities but rather to school to acquire quality education.
He further pledged to encourage Technical and Vocational Education to provide employable skills to Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates to improve their standard of living.
The District Chief Executive also pledged to tackle the phenomenon of armed robbery that has witnessed an upsurge in the area lately.
He also called on development partners, traditional leaders and residents to collaborate with his administration to bring the much-needed development to the area.
