The Paramount Chief of Prestea-Himan Traditional Area, Nana Ntaboah Prah IV, has told the Member of Parliament for the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency in the Western Region, who is also the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Babara Oteng Gyasi, not to be moved by threats from some of her constituents to vote her out of office in the next election, if her government proceeds to ban all forms of small scale mining.
The Chief has thus assured her that, the traditional counsel will support her to succeed in her fight against illegal mining.
Nana Prah believes the NPP government’s resolve to sanitize the mining space is a commendable and worthy of support.
Some inhabitants in Babara Oteng Gyasi’s constituency at Tarkwa Breman, threatened over the weekend to vote her out in the next election, if her government goes ahead to enforce the ban on all forms of illegal mining.
But speaking in an interview in Takoradi, Nana Ntaboah Prah IV, assured the MP not to be moved by the threats, since the traditional authority will support her to win her government’s fight against the Galamsey menace.
He said “I will encourage her [Madam Barbara Oteng Gyasi] that, these are some of the things she will encounter as a politician. I am a chief and we sometimes face similar opposition in some decisions. She shouldn’t get worried… We will support her to succeed. We want her to succeed as an MP because, the good that will come out of sanitizing the mining space, will benefit those of us in the constituency.”
