The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Kennedy Osei Nyarko as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
The Member of Parliament for Akyim Swedru would replace Mr. William Agyapong Quaitoo who was pressured to resign from his post in August.
The former deputy minister was heavily criticised for making what many considered ethnocentric comments with regards to people from the north in the heat of the destructive fall armyworms invasion. He apologised for those comments but said he was misconstrued.
Addressing Members of Parliament on the third meeting of the first session of the Seventh Parliament of the Forth Republic, the Speaker of Parliament Aaron Mike Ocquaye informed the house about the President’s intention and the need for replacing Mr. Agyapong Quaitoo.
Meanwhile, the deputy minister-designate Kennedy Osei Nyarko has been referred to the Appointments Committee of Parliament and would be vetted soon.
He is the chairman of the Local Government Committee of Parliament.
In an unrelated development, the President also through the Speaker of Parliament announced his trip to Togo to help solve the recent unrest situation in that part of West African States.
