Ghanaian midfielder, Sulley Muniru has completed a deal with Portuguese football club CD Tondella. The signing which was concluded on Tuesday, 28th November, 2017 and is a two-year contract expected to end in June 2019.
Muniru’s signing with the Portuguese Liga side comes months after his contract with Romanian outfit Steaua Bucuresti FC was suddenly terminated on the grounds of conflict and racial discrimination.
Sulley Muniru, together with his elder brother, Sulley Muntari, have been without clubs for some moths now. The two have however, been training together to be on form for possible moves to new clubs.

Muniru subsequently started his senior and professional football career in 2013, with Romanian side, CFR Cluj. He later moved from CFR Cluj to Steaua Bucuresti in 2015 at an alleged fee of about 500,000 euros. However, his stay at Bucuresti FC was really an unpleasant one, with his contract finally terminated two years into his four-year deal with the Romanian giants.
It was initially reported that the 24-year-old midfielder was sent packing because of a bust-up between him and then teammate Floring Tanase who was also dismissed. But it was later revealed that his skin colour was the underlying reason behind his dismissal.
Bucuresti owner, George ‘Gigi’ Becali had stated categorically that he does not want black footballers because they bring bad luck to the club. Although Becali pointed out that Muniru has behavioural problems while making reference to his quarel with his teammate, he also made it clear that he no longer wants “colour players”.
During Sulley Muniru’s stay at Bucuresti, the Ghanaian player made 61 appearances, scoring four goals in all.
