Residents of Boinso, a community within the Aowin district of the Western Region are calling on government, the Presbyterian Church, Non-Governmental Organisations and other stakeholders to come to their aid and provide them with classroom blocks for the Presbyterian Primary and JHS.
With a population of over seven hundred and fifty four (754) pupils, the school can only boast of a complete three unit classroom block which was built for children in nursery and kindergarten.
The Basel missionaries established the school at Boinso in 1992.
The bad condition of the classrooms compels teachers to hold classes under trees and uncompleted mud structures and there is no effective teaching and learning during rainy seasons because there are no shelters.
The students complained of water leakages and floods into the unfinished floors of the classrooms when it rains.
Most of the teachers in the school say the poor condition of the building such as leakages in classrooms, mouldy walls, and broken furniture make student uncomfortable and contributes to the high rate of absenteeism as well as low performance in exams and poor academic achievement.
In addition to this, the school cannot boast of a library, ICT laboratory and teachers’ bungalow, resulting in academic performance falling at an increasing rate over years.
The NDC government gave indenture to a contractor for a complete classroom building but unfortunately, the contractor died during the course of the work and the contract was appraised to another outworker which has led to a shoddy work.
