The Ghana police service has vowed to arrest persons who fail to comply with the country’s laws prohibiting the use of explosives, including fire crackers popularly known as knockouts.
Per the Executive Instrument (E. I) of 1999 the manufacture, possession and carriage of explosives including display shells, Artillery shells, ball and canister shells and fire crackers are prohibited.
The Police say in ensuring compliance of the law, it has deployed personnel for law enforcement duties during the Christmas period to arrest persons who act contrary to the executive instrument for prosecution.
“Members of the public in possession of prohibited explosives are therefore advised to deposit them with the police commander in charge the nearest police station or district,” the Police advised in a statement issued Wednesday.
It has also called on the general public to co-operate in checking and reducing incidents of crime during the Christmas and beyond.
