The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has ordered a full-scale investigation into circumstances leading to an alleged assault on one Bright Badu, a native of Fiapre in the Sunyani West District, by two Police officers.
Bright Badu, a native of Fiapre is reported to have been attacked by two Police Officers who had been dispatched to arrest him for allegedly assaulting his co-tenant.
In an interview with Citi News, Bright explained that the police officers were asked to arrest him after he had an altercation with his co tenant. He was however quick to add that the Police officers assaulted him and took away some items in his apartment.
“They assaulted me, handcuffed me, stabbed me with a knife and carried me into their car to the Police Station. They alleged I was an armed robber. I was then detained overnight and the following day was taken to the hospital…. When I was discharged yesterday, I also made a formal complaint against the Police for abusing me and stealing an amount of GHc 15,000.00 belonging to my employers that have gone missing in my room since they forcefully broke into my room, ransacked it before arresting me,”he explained.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, Supt. Nana Kwaku Duah who confirmed the incident to Citi News said an investigation has commenced into the matter.
“The case is being handled at the Divisional level but has been brought to the attention of the Regional Command. This is an allegation against them; you know they were deployed to effect a lawful arrest and there are reports of excesses on the part of the Police. Both the suspect and the Police officers accused of stabbing the suspect have sustained injuries but that of the suspect was serious so we gave him a Police form to seek medical attention. The case is a serious one, so the command has instituted a full scale investigation into the matter.”
Supt. Kwaku Duah assured the public that the Police was not going to cover up for their men if they are found culpable or acted unprofessionally and therefore appealed to all to wait for the outcome of the investigation which will be made public.
