A 35-year-old police officer, Corporal Ebenezer Okyere, has shot himself dead at Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi.
A girlfriend of the late Corporal Okyere said the officer decided to take his own life shortly after receiving a phone call.
The girlfriend, who is currently in police custody, claimed she tried to persuade Corporal Okyere to reverse his decision but he threatened to shoot her if she doesn’t move out of the room.
Shortly after she left the room to seek help from neighbours and friends of the late officer, they heard a gunshot.
The police officer was found in a pool of blood when the neighbours rushed to his room.
Late Corporal Ebenezer Okyere was with the Buffalo Unit at the Central Police Command.
His body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is yet to speak on the matter.
The police are scheduled to address the media after speaking with family of the deceased.
